This article is part of the ongoing series, “Our Ship It Journal”. Over the next months we will be sharing the vision behind Boom Squad and actively sharing our game design documents and monthly builds.
We hope that you’ll contribute to that vision; the more minds that come together from all different backgrounds, passionate gamers, fellow game developers or curious friends, the better off we are able to come up with great new things.

Long story short, the beginning of the year came with the decision to create a new video game company.

A few months later and we are incredibly excited about the current progress and the future. The everyday things we're doing at PVP Studio are amazing new challenges.

With our first title, we seek to revive the classic side-view shooters into a new team-based multiplayer action game called Boom Squad.

Day by day we're getting closer to the release and now we're happy to share our ideas and results with you.

This was a significant move for us both professionally and, above all, personally.

We were lucky to have both fulfilling professions and a common passion for games. We relied on the idea to blend the two together, into a new strong, long-term project, turning the passion into a business success.

And we believe that the video game industry will always have a special place for exciting projects once known as double-A”/AA games. Even without the hype of an experimental Indie or the spectacle of a blockbuster, these type of games have a heart and soul and they create memorable experiences for the players.

Mid-sized/ AA-games/ AAA Indie” — whatever you call them these days — we want to build a game that we would love to play and that will reach over one million players, truly enjoying it for many years to come.

Community Driven Development

Over the next months we will be sharing the vision and the inner workings of our studio openly, both the good and the bad, the decisions and the reasons behind Boom Squad. That means actively open sourcing our:

  • Game design documents
  • Road-map
  • Monthly builds
  • Challenges and risks.

Let’s build Boom Squad together.

We hope that you'll contribute to that vision; the more minds that come together from all different backgrounds - passionate gamers, fellow game developers or curious friends - the better off we are able to come up with great things.

What's in it for you?

We have a special place in our hearts for early adopters of our game. We call them Founding Members, and they receive exclusive in game content, mentions in credits as early contributors, IAPs with real post-release value and other goodies.

But most of all, you get to shape the future of Boom Squad by giving us feedback on early versions and bringing your ideas along our game design documents.

The classic side-view shooter in a new team-based multiplayer action game

We fed on old games, new games, Indie and AAA games, movies, old emotions and dreams. Everything that resonates with inspiration. In the end, we mixed them in the game we wanted to play.

It features a group of special forces ex-operatives from different countries, deployed in different locations, as a group of elite mercenaries, carrying out all sort of missions

Every match takes the best from the late 90s — fast, adrenaline packed gameplay, simple and fun mechanics — combined with the best perks of modern games: online multiplayer ranked matches, highly stylized graphics and thrilling customizations

The focus is on player vs. player and cooperative gameplay with each player controlling a customized character equipped with specialized firearms and special combat abilities, placed in a 5 vs. 5 combat.

RPG Character Evolution

With this game, we envisioned a more flexible and immersive game experience than any platformer had been achieved before.

  • While every character starts with his own story and personality, the player won’t be stuck in a particular playing style or class.

  • He can evolve his role in the squad and level up his character over time to match his abilities with his personality and weapon of choice.

Platformer shooters don’t have to be spray and pray. They have so much to offer.

In Boom Squad, the key to winning is to combine the fast-paced skill with co-op, real time tactics, smart and ultimate reactions.

  • Use all the abilities and weapons wisely
  • Harmonise with the teammates
  • Always keep an eye on the surroundings.

Success comes with glory and perks and losing a battle means falling lower in rankings, so the stakes are high.

So, what do you say? Do you want to help shape the future of Boom Squad together?

We are always opened to discussions.
